Read article--The Crossroads of History: The Struggle against Jihad and Supremacist Ideologies

"....The true challenge of Islamic supremacism to America and the free world is not about Islam, Islamism, or terrorism, but about us.

It is a historic challenge to determine whether we truly have the courage of our convictions on equality and liberty and we are willing to fight for these ideals, or if we will instead accept the continuing growth of anti-freedom ideologies here and around the world...."

CI Centre Professor John Gaskill retired from the FBI in 1998 after 26 years specializing in surveillance and foreign counterintelligence work.

Gaskill began his career stationed at the FBI's Atlanta Field Office. He then spent a year at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California where he became an honor graduate in Mandarin Chinese. Gaskill was then transferred to the Washington Field Office where he began counterintelligence work. He participated in the Humphrey/Truong espionage case and testified at the trial. Ronald Humphrey, a US Information Agency employee, turned over classified information to David Truong, a Vietnamese immigrant who passed the documents to the North Vietnamese. They were both indicted in 1978 and each received a 15-year sentence.

Gaskill was then assigned to the FBI National Security Division Operational Training Unit where he was the national program manager and trainer of surveillance specialists. He also provided lectures and presentations to various groups within and outside the Government, and conducted liaison with other agencies. He developed, implemented and managed courses in various aspects of counterintelligence.

After nearly 13 years in this unit, Gaskill moved to the Policy and Plans Unit where was responsible for development and implementation of an annual national counterintelligence operational survey and, based on analysis of results, recommendation of a national counterintelligence policy.

In June 1994, Gaskill was named the FBI representative to the interagency Aldrich Ames Damage Assessment Team at the CIA. His work involved extensive debriefing of Ames, detailed research and numerous interviews.

From 1995 until his retirement, Gaskill went back to the Operational Training Unit where he developed, implemented and managed numerous surveillance training courses, including being responsible for both basic and advanced training for a specific group of surveillance specialists. He also participated in the Earl Pitts espionage investigation.

Gaskill has a bachelor's degree in English from Wake Forest University and a master's degree in Education from the University of Florida.
