Asia-Pacific countries set for counterterrorism conference in Indonesia

Government leaders and security chiefs from six Asia-Pacific nations will gather Monday to discuss ways to better fight terrorism and an apparent rise in Muslim extremism in the region, officials said. Al-Qaida linked group posts Internet video of execution of 18 Iraqi troops
An al-Qaida-affilated organization posted on Saturday a video of the execution of 18 Iraqi security troops, shot in the back of their heads while kneeling on the ground near a citrus grove.  The 3-minute video, on a Web site known to be used by the Islamic State of Iraq, claimed the 18 kidnapped government security forces were slain in retaliation for the alleged rape of a Sunni woman by members of the Shiite-dominated police….(AP, 3 Mar 07)

 

Militant May Lead Philippine Terrorists

A little-known militant is being considered to lead an al-Qaida-linked terrorism group in the Philippines after U.S.-backed troops killed its two top leaders, security officials said Saturday.
