This introductory level course provides insights into myriad threats to American national security posed by Venezuela under the leadership of Hugo Chavez.
A brief discussion of the history of the Bolivarian Revolution fostered by Chavez puts Venezuela’s current political policies into perspective.
To understand Venezuela today one must understand the Chavez’s hatred for America and its neighbor Colombia.
Chavez and his administration, to include the intelligence and CI agencies, focus on developing mutually satisfying relationships with Cuba, Bolivia, Iran, China, and Russia, many of which form direct and indirect threats to America, oftentimes by design.
We will discuss US national security concerns from both sides of these complex economic, social, political, and military relationships.
A variety of terrorist groups and other non-state actors such as the FARC, Hamas, Hezbollah, and Islamic extremists enjoy support from the current Venezuelan regime.
We will highlight the roles NARCO terrorism and weapons trafficking play as tools of Chavez’s international and regional politics.
