Interpersonal communication can be challenging; communication between cultures is even more complex.

Messages spoken by one cultural group are often perceived quite differently by another cultural group.

This course is designed for investigators to increase their communication skills through increased cross cultural awareness.

Students will gain insight to the beliefs, customs, and communication preferences of the varied cultures typically encountered during investigations.

Practical tips for successfully interacting with individuals from other cultures will be provided.

The class will also examine how our own culture is viewed from the perspective of those who were raised in countries with different cultural norms, and how culture directly affects communication.

The course will incorporate practical demonstrations of successful communication skills with individuals from different cultural groups.

Guest speakers from a range of cultures will provide their perspective on topics such as time, gender differences, nonverbal gestures, spatial zones, impression of US government officials, and possible lack of candor when answering questions from government officials.
